The Sabbath

When and by whom was the Sabbath made?

“Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.” Genesis 2:1, 2.

What is the reason for keeping the Sabbath day holy?

“For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.” Exodus 20:11.

Note.—The Sabbath is the memorial of creation, the sign of God’s creative power. God designed it so that, by keeping it, man would forever remember Him as the true and living God, the Creator of all things.

He always did claim it for His own, even from the beginning of the world. ‘In six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and rested the seventh day.
